In the pandemic right now, they have not slacked on customer service even though a lot of other places have. I've enjoyed a nice outdoor, street seating dinner and it was very nice. A walkway leads to the entrance of the cabin, which still has the captain’s chair, helm and instrument panel. Stairs descend to the dining room with wood floors and original windows.
There's a nice beer selection and there is plenty of light from all the exterior windows to create a nice atmosphere. Amsterdam Ale House plays sports on a few TVs, but it feels less like a sports bar and more like a casual neighborhood spot than any other place on this stretch of Amsterdam Avenue. They serve food until 2am, so keep it in mind for drinks and a bite after a show at the Beacon Theatre a block away. We had chicken tenders, mozzarella sticks, a quesadilla, chicken wings and tots and they were all pretty good, about what you'd expect for bar food. Due to rising costs an operating fee of 4% is applied to all orders. This is unrelated to any form of payment.

The trip to Amsterdam-Centrum can take about half an hour using various forms of public transportation, such as nearby Tram 26. By car or taxi, the trip takes less than 20 minutes. IJburg has a sandy beach, about 12 minutes away by bike, which is a destination for water sports, including windsurfing. The area offers plenty of restaurants, cafes, shops, hotels and markets.
I was looking for a post work beer at 2am, and unbeknownst to me Wide Spread Panic had just finished a show at The Beacon. While the bar counter was packed to capacity, table service was on point. There is a shopping center a few minutes away by foot, along with many schools and parking garages. The Amsterdam Ale House is a lively old school pub with a really great vibe. It's warm and friendly, and it's right around the corner from the Beacon Theater...so it can get pretty crowded here.
